Individuals
- The priority population served by Casa Esperanza are:
- ethnic and linguistic minorities;
- persons with disabilities;
- homeless persons;
- women with children
- pregnant and postpartum women, including those on a methadone maintenance regime;
- criminal court involved and previously incarcerated individuals; and,
- injection drug abusers who are at risk for contracting HIV/AIDS.
- 98% of the clients we serve identify as Hispanic/Latino
- Many have either limited or no English language skills.
- At intake:
- Close to 64% are homeless
- 61% lack a high-school diploma
- 95% lack a job or source of income
- Close to 100% of the women and at least 90% of the men have a history of extensive trauma, including, but not limited to, domestic violence or sexual abuse.
- While 81.3% of the clients we serve have co-occurring disorders, only 33% have a dual Mental Health Diagnosis upon entering the program.
- At least 25% of the clients we serve are living with HIV/AIDS.
- Close to 90% of the men have at least one significant medical condition, including Hepatitis C and Asthma.
- Over 65% of all admissions to the Men’s Program report Opiates as their primary drug of choice, Crack/Cocaine as the second (30%) and Alcohol third (5%).
Against these incredible odds, these men and women defy the stereotypes of substance abusers as they work together to create new lives for themselves and their families.
Families
- Nearly half of the residents of The Latinas y Niños Center are mothers of young children, ages 1.5 to 6, who either live at the Center or are in the process of reunifying with their mothers in treatment
- Over 90% of the women in the Latinas y Niños Center are DCF involved
- 82% of all our clients (men and women) have children under the age of 18
- Only 15% of them have custody of their youngest child
- 36% have had no contact with their youngest child in the past 3 months
Communities
- Casa Esperanza serves individuals and families from all the major urban centers across the State, including: Boston; Springfield; Holyoke; Lowell-Lawrence; New Bedford-Fall River; Brockton; and, Worcester.
